Hunting in Spain focuses primarily on four subspecies of ibex – the Beceite, Gredos, Ronda and Sierra Nevada chamois, each of which inhabits distinct mountain ranges and requires an individual hunting approach. Capturing all four subspecies constitutes the prestigious Spanish Ibex Grand Slam for hunters, considered one of the greatest achievements in mountain hunting. Deer – goats in Spain achieve excellent trophy performance, especially in the central and northern regions, where population management is carried out at the highest level. The ibex hunting season typically runs from autumn to spring, with the best trophies being taken during the winter months, when the horns reach full development. Hunting requires excellent physical condition – climbing steep slopes at altitudes exceeding 3,000 meters above sea level is a real challenge. Spanish hunting guides are among the most experienced in Europe, with excellent knowledge of the terrain and the habits of the game.
